Truth or Fiction? Gardening Myths Revealed!

BloggersWhich of these statements is true?

  • Plants like music.
  • Wood mulch attracts carpenter ants.
  • Trees should be staked.
Get the surprising answers to these and other so-called gardening "facts" at one of our favorite websites, The Renegade Gardener (aka Don Engebretson). Engebretson is an award-winning garden writer and landscape designer whose weekly myth-busting posts are the most popular feature on his site.

You'll find a long list of common myths exposed. Does landscape fabric really work to control weeds? No. Is soil under oaks and pine trees really acidic? No ... well, a wee bit. But that's not the reason plants die under these trees. They die because they're growing in very dry shade.

Then there's this one: Cocoa bean mulch is toxic to dogs. Engebretson first dubbed this a myth but later changed his mind after hearing from informed readers.

He's just the kind of resource gardeners need!
