Video: Off With Their Heads!
 |
If you're a flower, refreshment during these dog days of summer doesn't only come from water. It's also delivered via snips!
The technique of deadheading—snipping off spent blooms—is an effective way to help plants redirect their energy into producing new growth and a new flush of blooms. This easy-to-follow video shows you everything you need to know to properly deadhead petunias, but you can use the same technique to deadhead other annuals in your garden.
And you might want to do more than just remove faded blooms. As you'll see in the video, when plants are really ragged, you can cut them back significantly. You'll be glad you did when August and September roll around and your garden is the prettiest on the block.
