Video: A Chain Built for Rain
 |
Raise your hand if you think the words "stylish" and "water-conserving" go hand in hand. Yeah, we thought not.
So you'll be as pleased as we were when we discovered this do-it-yourself rain chain by eco-friendly architect Michelle Kaufmann. Not only does it channel water in a beautiful way, it's easy and inexpensive to make.
Rain chains are an increasingly popular alternative to traditional downspouts. Based on a Japanese concept, they gently transport roof runoff to the ground or into a rain barrel. You can use a variety of materials to make the chain; in this video, Kaufmann uses readily available shower curtain rings.
Pretty and practical, and made by you—this is one sweet project.
